FAQs
How long do sessions run for?
Appointments run for 50-60 minutes with an extra 10 minutes spent on preparation and note writing.
How frequent are sessions?
Therapy can be short term (10-15 sessions) or long term (20+ sessions) depending on the nature of the concerns. Short term therapy usually provides symptom relief (e.g. less anxiety, better mood), while longer-term therapy is aimed at processing trauma.
Sessions usually occur weekly or fortnightly in the beginning with subsequent sessions being less frequent.
What happens in the first session?
Therapy begins with an initial intake assessment, where you meet with Lisa for the first time to discuss the issues that are bringing you in. This intake assessment involves gathering background information and developing treatment goals. Following the intake assessment, Lisa will provide you with a treatment plan, including timeframes and suggested interventions. The intake assessment also gives you a chance to get to know your psychologist’s particular way of working, to see if it will meet your needs.
Do I need a mental health care plan?
Not at all. Embrace Psychology and Wellbeing welcomes the opportunity to work with anyone who feels they might need a bit of help. A diagnosis is not required for these services.
How do I obtain a mental health care plan?
Your GP can assess if you meet criteria for a mental health care plan and if so, will provide a copy of this to your treating psychologist.
